How Your AC Works! – Ask Tyger Lucas

Hello, it’s Tyger Lucas and we’re answering our questions today. And our question’s from William Trippey and his question is today, he’s stating, “Hey, I’d like to know how’s an AC system work and how many major parts are there in an AC system?”

Well, William, I’d like to show you today. I’d like to answer your question. Well, one, you can go to our webpage and you can go and search on Lucas Auto Care. You can go to auto repair services and then, you can go to auto AC repair. Click on it and scroll down and you’re gonna have a complete diagram of an AC system and how it works. And our – we’re gonna have – of the AC system. One’s gonna be your compressor. One is gonna be your expansion valve. Two is gonna be your evaporator. Three is gonna be your dryer. Some people are gonna call it an accumulator. And four is gonna be your condenser, okay?

Now, the way that this works, William, is that the gases turn to liquid and, as you can see in our diagram, that your compressor pumps these gases and the gases then turn into liquid. But, as you see the arrows, that the gases, where they’re blue, then they turn into hot. And as they go in, this is in front of your car, they circulate. They go through the dryer, then they go through the expansion valve. And as they go through your expansion valve right here, there’s a tiny, little hole right here and as – while they’re real, real hot right here, they turn into a small, small, low pressure liquid. Now, that action makes it cold. Now, while that does that, while it’s almost frozen, it goes through your evaporator and in front of your gas, it is freezing right here. And while it’s freezing, this is where the cold part happens and that’s where your air conditioning’s happening in your car, and your blower’s right here blowing it and making it cold. Now, it comes back, goes right back through your expansion valve, goes to your compressor, and it does it again. And this repeats itself and repeats itself and repeats itself and so on.

Now, hopefully, I explained it good. If you have any questions, put your questions on Facebook. I’d be happy to answer ‘em. And, remember, when second best is not an option, Lucas Auto Care.
